The models are validated and tested against real SINAMICSconverters and are available in the form of a standardized FMU(Functional Mockup Unit). Use case 1: Providing loadprofiles for drive sizing
If you are designing a machine, you want to make sure that youselect the SINAMICS converter and SIMOTICS motor most suitable foryou drive application. As SINAMICS DriveSim Basic iscontrol-unit-agnostic and thus represents a generic drive, you canparametrize it according to the functionality of your application.Running the simulation results in load characteristics, i.e. torqueor speed curves over time. You can import these load profiles intoTIA Selection Tool to select the suitable Control Unit anddimension the drive to best fit to the demand. So as a result youhave well selected SINAMICS converters and SIMOTICS motors with thehelp of the digital twin.

If you are designing a machine, you want to make sure the PLC codeworks with your SINAMICS drive. After writing the PLC code in TIAPortal, you can connect it via PLCSIM Advanced to any time-basedsimulation tool (e.g. SIMIT). Integrated into the simulation tool,SINAMICS DriveSim Basic acts as a realistic communication partnerfor the PLC. Next, you can commission the virtual PLC in TIA Portalas you would do with a real PLC connected to a real drive. Withoutsimulation, you would need to do that on-site. With simulation, younot only save time, but also have the freedom to try out variousconfigurations and optimize your PLC code early in the process.
